TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) tied the school record in the 200m and won the long jump, while Sarah Robbie (Marlton, N.J.) claimed first place in the 800m to highlight the Rutgers women's outdoor track and field team's results at the Seminole Invitational host by Florida State this weekend.
"We had an opportunity to compete against some of the best student-athletes and teams in the country. We had a couple event winners, a number of PRs, a school record and a few top eight finishe," said head coach James Robinson. "Some of the ladies acquitted themselves well and as a team, we all need to raise our level of performance."
In the long jump, Farquharson reached a distance of 6.54m (21' 5.5") to capture the title and was only .03m off the school record set by Shameka Marshall at the ECAC Championships in 2005. Her Long jump is the best jump in the Big Ten and currently the top jump in the country. She also placed fourth in the 200m in a time of 23.25, tying her own Rutgers school record that she set at the Bulls Invitational to open the 2016 outdoor campaign.
Robbie gave RU its other title at the Seminole Invitational with a new personal best of 2:11.72 in the 800m. Her previous top time was 2:12.04 set at the Valentine's Invitational during the indoor season.
In the relays, both the 4x100m and 4x400m teams raced to their best times of the season. Farquharson joined Phyllis Gordon (Neptune, N.J.), Chamique Francis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) as the runner-ups in the 4x100m with a season-best time of 45.12. The same group went on to claim fourth place in the 4x400m relay with a season best time of 3:42.44.
Other Scarlet Knights placing among the top 10 in their respective events were Deanna DiLandro (Oakland, N.J.) and Jenna Sobieski (Old Bridge, N.J.) in the 800m, Ellen Miller (Morris Plains, N.J.) in the 1500m, Sabrina Alexander (Millstone, N.J.) in the 100m hurdles and Kabirah Crawford (Dunellen, N.J.) in the 400m hurdles.
The Scarlet Knights also had a pair of top 10 placements in the throws. Halia Rosemond (West Orange, N.J. ) threw a personal best 39.93m (131' 0") to take seventh in the discus. Cameron Daniels (Vineland, N.J.) took 10th in the shot put reaching 11.80m (38' 8.75").
