COLUMBUS, Ohio - Rutgers women's golf placed ninth with a 936 (320-308-308) total at the 12-team Lady Buckeye Invitational, played Saturday and Sunday on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club. Sophomore Emily Mills finished strong on Sunday to conclude the event tied for 28th with a 229 (78-77-74) in the 75-player field.
"We played better second and third rounds this weekend," said head coach Kari Williams. "It showed that having experience on this course was advantageous. We are excited about earning our first win over a Big Ten team and look forward to continuing that at the Championship next weekend."
The Scarlet Knights placed ahead of Maryland, Indianapolis and Seton Hall.
The tournament format enabled six players to compete per team, with the four best scores counting, replicating the format at next weekend's Big Ten Championship.
Senior Christina Paulsen also performed well in the highly competitive event, posting a 231 (78-74-78) on the par 72, 6,319-yard course. She tied for 32nd.
Seniors Racquel Zurick and Jacquelyn Mullens, freshman Astrid Aneman and sophomore Tatum Jackson rounded-out the Rutgers scorecard. Zurick tied for 57th with a 242 (79-78-85), Mullens tied for 59th with a 165 (84-81-78), Aneman was 65th with a 246 (85-79-82) and Jackson was 69th with a 249 (85-86-78).
No. 14 Kent State earned the team title with a 14-over par 878 (288-287-303), five strokes ahead of second place Ohio State and Indiana, both of which posted 883's. Hoosier Camille Chevalier captured individual medalist honors with a three under par 213 (75-70-68).
The Scarlet Knights return to the links next weekend at the Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis.
