WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Rutgers women's outdoor track and field team captured the 2016 Colonial Relays team crown on Saturday, the Scarlet Knights' fourth Colonial Relay team title since 2010. Event victories were captured by Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) in the 400m, Allyson Black (Denville, N.J.) in the 10,000m and Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.) in the triple jump along with the 4x100m and 4x200m relay squads.
The Scarlet Knights totaled 92 points in the 60-team field to take home the title. RU was followed by Bucknell in second with 81.50 points and Columbia in third with 71.50 points.
"As there were 60 teams represented this weekend, the team did an outstanding job battling the elements and staying focused," said head coach James Robinson. "It's truly a total team win and the coaching staff is pleased with the effort given this weekend."
Farquharson brought home the Colonial 400m title in a time of 53.74. Her time is currently fifth in the Big Ten.
Black, a Mid-Atlantic All-Regional honoree during cross country season in the fall, captured the 10,000m title crossing the finish line in an ECAC qualifying time of 36:06.69.
Grant, meanwhile leaped to a mark of 11.91m (39' 1") in the triple jump to take first place. The 4x100m relay team of Phyllis Gordon (Neptune, N.J.), Chamique Francis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) and Farquharson claimed the top spot in the event with a time of 47.23. Gordon, Saunders and Farquharson joined Alayna Famble (Stockbridge, Ga.) in running the 4x200m relay and collected a first place time of 1:37.87.
Also scoring for the Scarlet Knights on the track were Francis in the 100m, Gordon in the 200m, Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.) in the 3000m along with Sabrina Alexander (Millstone, N.J.) and Kabirah Crawford (Dunellen. N.J.) in the hurdles and five additional relay squads.
Francis was the last qualifier into the 100m finals out of Friday's preliminary heats and ended in fifth place posting a time of 12.19.
Gordon took third and was the second collegiate finisher in the 200m in racing to a time of 24.16. Senatore, meanwhile, set a new PR in the 3000m. Crossing the finish line in 9:51.05, Senatore collected an ECAC qualifying standard and placed fourth. Her previous best in the event was 9:52.33 at the ECAC Indoor Championships in 2014.
In the hurdles, Alexander recorded a new personal best in the 100m hurdle preliminaries, qualifying for finals racing in 14.34. In the finals, she took fourth logging a time of 14.66. Additionally, Crawford took sixth in the 400m hurdles in 1:02.70.
In addition to RU's first place times by the 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams, the 4x400m, 4x800m, 4x1500m, distance medley and sprint medley all contributed to the scoring. Notably, the 4x800m relay squad of Ellen Miller (Morris Plains, N.J.), Sarah Robbie (Marlton, N.J.), Jenna Sobieski (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Deanna DiLandro (Oakland, N.J.) ran to an ECAC qualifying time of 9:07.90.
In the field events, in addition to Grant's title in the long jump, two Scarlet Knights earned top 10 performances.
Adrienne Williams (Hamilton, N.J.) took eighth in the triple jump at a distance of 10.90m (35' 9.25'), while Halia Rosemond (West Orange, N.J.) placed fourth in the university division of the discus, throwing 38.78m (127' 3").
