ATLANTA, Ga. - Phyllis Gordon (Neptune, N.J.), Chamique Francis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) and Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) won the Georgia Tech Invitational 4x100m title with their best time of the season, a time only .28 seconds off the school record, to highlight the Rutgers women's outdoor track and field team's results this weekend.
The Scarlet Knight quartet, who shook up the order this weekend after having ran their best time of the season last weekend at the Seminole Invitational, reset their top time of the year in taking home the title in a time of 44.99. They were just short of the RU benchmark of 44.71 set by Farquharson, Asha Ruth, Corryn Hurrington and Tylia Gillon at the NCAA East Regional in 2013.
The same foursome also ran the 4x400m relay and set a season best of 3:38.23 in their second place showing.
The 400m featured four Scarlet Knights logging ECAC qualifying marks and several PRs. Farquharson led the pack with a fourth place finish and a new PR of 53.20. She resets her former top time of 53.74 set at this year's Colonial Relays. Gordon took sixth with a time of 54.41, also setting a new personal best. She topped her previous time of 55.03 ran at the ECAC Indoor Championships earlier this year. Francis posted a new PR of 55.75 with her 12th place finish, surpassing her previous best of 55.03 at the Rutgers Invitational during the winter. Meanwhile, Alayna Famble (Stockbridge, Ga.) registered a season best time of 55.90 and placed 14th.
Saunders, who anchored the 4x100m relay team this weekend, also placed third in the 100m, just shy of her PR. The sophomore Scarlet Knight crossed the finish line in 11.81, just missing out on her personal best of 11.77 set at last year's Colonial Relays.
In the field events, RU had a pair of top five finishes led by Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.), who reached a distance of 12.05m to land in fourth place in the triple jump.
Rutgers also sent Scarlet Knights to the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton.
Allyson Black (Denville, N.J.) led the way with a runner-up performance in the 3000m with her time of 10:03.40.
The Rutgers women's outdoor track and field team returns to competition on April 28-30 at the prestigious Penn Relays.
