PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's track and field team will field four relay teams along with Scarlet Knights competitors in the 100m, 5000m, long jump and triple jump at the 122nd running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
LAST TIME AT PENN RELAYS:
The 4x200m relay team featuring current Scarlet Knights Imani Beauliere (Union, N.J.), Kaprice James (Roselle, N.J.), and Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) not only took off over two seconds from their preliminary heat, but also captured a then-season best time of 1:37.63.
The 4x200m quartet was not the only Scarlet Knight relay squad to set a new season best. The 4x800m team including Deanna DiLandro (Oakland, N.J.), Sarah Robbie (Marlton, N.J.) and Kaitlyn Bedard (Ringoes, N.J.) raced to its fastest time of the year and ECAC qualifying time at 9:02.59 and placed 14th.
KEEP AN EYE ON:
4x100m Relay
The 4x100m relay team of Phyllis Gordon (Neptune, N.J.), Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), Chamique Francis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) have set season bests the last two weeks. Last weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational, the group was a mere .28 seconds off the school record as they took home the relay title in a time of 44.99. The time currently stands fourth in the Big Ten.
The same Scarlet Knight foursome will compete in the 4x400m. Like the 4x100m relay squad, the 4x400m relay team has had two straight weeks of posting their top times of the season. In Atlanta a week ago, they raced to a second place time of 3:38.23.
4x800m Relay
Sarah Robbie (Marlton, N.J.), Ellen Miller (Morris Plains, N.J.), Jenna Sobieski (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Deanna DiLandro (Oakland, N.J.) will comprise the 4x800m relay team at Penn Relays. In their last appearance, they posted an ECAC qualifying time of 9:07.90 in a fourth place showing at the Colonial Relays.
Allyson Black
Allyson Black (Denville, N.J.) was RU's top performer at last weekend's Larry Eillis Invitational, where she was the runner-up in the 3000m in a time of 10:03.40. This weekend at Penn Relays, she will compete in the 5000m. In her other 5000m appearance of the outdoor season, Black battled the cold and wind to take fourth at the Metropolitan Championships.
Paige Senatore
Paige Senatore (Delsea, N.J.) will join teammate Allyson Black in competing for the 5000m title at Penn Relays. Senatore claimed the Metropolitan Championship title three weeks ago in the 5000m. The senior Scarlet Knight overcame the inclement elements to set a PR of 17:22.31, besting her previous time by over five seconds.
Bryanna Grant
Bryanna Grant (Cranford, N.J.) has landed in the top position in the triple jump in three of her four meets this outdoor season. Entering this weekend's competition, she is ninth in the Big Ten with her PR leap of 12.18m (39' 11.5") from the Bulls Invitational
Gabrielle Farquharson
A Penn Relays veteran, Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) will compete in the 100m and long jump along with the relay squads. In the spring of 2014, she helped the 4x400 relay team to the ECAC Division title at Penn Relays and also was a member of the 4x200m relay team that reached the Championship of America final. Two weeks ago, Farquharson leapt to a distance of 6.54m (21' 5.5") in the long jump, a mark which currently stands fifth nationally. In the 100m, Farquharson is third in the Big Ten after clocking in at a school record time of 11.39 to open the season.
Following Penn Relays, the Rutgers women's outdoor track and field team will gear up for the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Championships slated for May 13-15 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
