Farquharson NCAA Bound in Long Jump

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) will be heading to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the long jump after taking eighth in the event at the NCAA East Regional on Thursday evening. The Scarlet Knight also advanced to the quarterfinals of the 100m after winning her heat and taking ninth overall in the preliminaries.
Farquharson reached a distance of 6.29m (20' 7.75") in the long jump and with her ninth place finish became one of 12 from the East Region to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
In the 100m preliminaries, Farquharson was one of 24 to qualify for the East Region quarterfinals. She clocked in at 11.43. Quarterfinal racing will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with the top three from each quarterfinal heat plus next best three times advancing to the NCAA Championships.
Farquharson will be making her second NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance having earned Second Team All-America status with the 4x100m relay team and Honorable Mention All-America honors with the 4x400m relay team in 2013. Additionally, she competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump in 2015 and the 200m in 2016, securing Second Team All-America honors in both events. She was the Big Ten runner-up in the long jump at the league's outdoor championships two weeks ago.
The 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on June 8-11.
Still up for the Scarlet Knights at the NCAA East Regional are Farquharson and Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) in the 200m preliminaries on Friday at 8 p.m. as well as the 4x100m relay on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the 4x400m relay on Saturday at 9:25 p.m.
