Farquharson Qualifies For NCAA Championships in 100m

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.), who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in the long jump on Thursday, also qualified for the 100m and advanced to the 200m East regional quarterfinals on Friday evening.
Farquharson finished 11th in the 100m to become one of 12 quarterfinalists to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She logged a time of 11.47.
The senior Scarlet Knight reached quarterfinal racing after winning her heat and taking ninth overall in the 100m preliminaries on Thursday night with a time of 11.43.
In the 200m, Farquharson advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals with a 13th place finish as one of 24 to qualify out of the preliminaries. She posted a time of 23.24.
Teammate Bria Saunders (Parsippany, N.J.) also raced in the 200m preliminaries. Saunders collected a time of 24.07 and finished 41st overall in the field.
Farquharson will be making her second NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance having earned Second Team All-America status with the 4x100m relay team and Honorable Mention All-America honors with the 4x400m relay team in 2013. Additionally, she competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump in 2015 and the 200m in 2016, securing Second Team All-America honors in both events. She was the Big Ten champion in the 100m and runner-up in the long jump at the league's outdoor championships two weeks ago.
The 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon on June 8-11.
Still up for the Scarlet Knights at the NCAA East Regional are 4x100m relay on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the 4x400m relay on Saturday at 9:25 p.m. featuring Farquharson, Saunders, Chamique Francis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Phyllis Gordon (Neptune, N.J.) and Alayna Famble (Stockbridge, Ga.).
