Farquharson Competes Thursday at NCAA Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The NCAA Outdoor Championships get underway for Rutgers' Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) on Thursday at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Farquharson, who was named the Mid-Atlantic Track Athlete of the Year on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), will compete in the 100m semifinals at 8:45 p.m. (ET), long jump at 9 p.m. (ET) and 200m semifinals at 9:45 p.m. (ET). The 100m and 200m semifinals will be available live on ESPN.
Should Farquharson advance out of the semifinal round in the 100m and 200m, she will again race in the 100m final on 7:20 p.m. (ET) and 200m final at 8:05 p.m. (ET) on Saturday. Both those events will also be available live on ESPN.
Farquharson will be capping off a storied Rutgers career at the NCAA Championships.
This outdoor season Farquharson was the Big Ten Champion in the 100m, while capturing silver in the long jump and bronze in the 200m. Additionally, she captured the 100m title at the prestigious Penn Relays and brought home titles in the 100m and with the 4x100m relay at the Metropolitan Championships. The senior Scarlet Knight also established new school records this spring in the 100m, 200m and with the 4x100m relay team.
In all, Farquharson has earned four all-america distinctions over her career, racked up nine Big Ten medals and set nine school indoor and outdoor records.
Farquharson was a second team all-american in the 4x100m and honorable mention all-american in the 4x400m during her sophomore outdoor season in 2013, a second team all-america honoree in the long jump in the 2015 indoor season and most recently captured second team all-america accolades in the 200m during the 2016 indoor season.
Rutgers' first Big Ten champion in school history, Farquharson was a two-time 200m indoor champion to go along with her 100m outdoor title this past May. Her other Big Ten medals include long jump (silver: 2015 indoor, 2016 outdoor; bronze - 2016 indoor), 60m (bronze - 2015 & 2016 indoor) and 200m (bronze - 2016 outdoor).
Among the places in the Rutgers record book Farquharson's name can be found are in the indoor 60m, 200m and 4x400m relay, as well as the outdoor 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, 4x200m relay, 4x400m relay and sprint relay.
Following the Big Ten Championships, the Scarlet Knight will be vying for to earn spot with the U.S. Olympic Team in Rio competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the long jump. Farquharson qualified for trials by leaping 6.54m (21' 5.5") at the Seminole Invitational in mid-April. The mark is currently eighth in the nation collegiately and 13th in the country. U.S. Olympic Trials will be held July 1-10 at Hayward Field, the same site as the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
