EUGENE, Ore. - Gabrielle Farquharson (Williamstown, N.J.) closed the last chapter on her storied Rutgers track and field career with First Team All-America honors in the long jump and Second Team All-America accolades in the 100m and 200m on Thursday night at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
"Gabrielle capped off one of the most storied track & field careers in great fashion," said head coach James Robinson. "She captured her very first First Team All-America honor and two Second Team All-America honors. Gabrielle has represented herself and Rutgers University at the highest level of our sport."
Farquharson kicked off her NCAA appearance in the 100m semifinals finishing 13th overall in a time of 11.41 to earn her first all-america distinction of the evening.
Following her 100m semifinal race, Farquharson straightaway went over to the long jump. After the first three series, she was one of nine to qualify for finals jumping. She entered finals sitting in sixth place with her best jump reaching 6.29m (20' 7.75").
Immediately following the long jump, Farquharson made her way back over to the track for the 200m semifinals. She placed 10th overall in a time of 23.26, just .06 seconds away from qualifying for the finals, and earning her second all-america honor of the night.
After a short rest, Farquharson was back to competing in the long jump. After another three rounds of jumps, her distance of 6.29m (20' 7.75") remained her best jump of the night and she finished seventh overall.
With her three all-america distinctions on Thursday night, Farquharson has earned seven all-america honors over her career. She concludes her time "On The Banks" with nine Big Ten medals and nine school indoor and outdoor records.
Although her NCAA appearance marked her final events as a Scarlet Knight, Farquharson's track and field days are far from over. She will compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2016 Rio games in the long jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials in July.
