Scarletknights.com: When did you first start playing soccer?
Maggie Barron: Probably around when I was four, just playing rec soccer around Virginia.
SK.com: Who was your biggest soccer influence?
MB: My oldest sister played soccer and I wanted to follow her when I was little, so I started playing and I just kept playing. I played forward for a while and one day they put me in goal as a joke. I turned out to be better at goalie than at forward so I just stuck with it.
SK.com: What is your best soccer memory?
MB: I scored off a punt one time when I was playing U-11 and we won the Bethesda Cup off of that. It was pretty funny.
SK.com: Do you have a favorite soccer player?
MB: Not really it's kind of hard to choose.
SK.com: What did you know about Rutgers prior to committing?
MB: Really nothing. I just knew we played the PDA Cup here in the area and I saw the school while I played and I liked it.
SK.com: Why did you choose Rutgers?
MB: I originally became interested because it is so close to New York City. Then I attended a summer camp and was impressed to see that the quality and play of soccer was so high. The coaches were supportive on and off the field, helping technically with my foot work and showing me how I could succeed academically through study halls and tutors. Walking around the campus, I could see myself as a student athlete at Rutgers, a place where I could grow not only as a goalkeeper, but also as a student.
SK.com: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
MB: To get better technically and work on my footwork.
SK.com: What is your favorite TV show, music, food?
MB: My favorite TV show would probably be American Horror Story. Food is mac n' cheese. Music - pretty much everything except country. Pregame I listen to rap and EDM music.
SK.com: What are your hobbies outside of playing soccer?
MB: Sleeping, eating and hanging out with friends.
SK.com: If you could excel at any other sport, what would it be?
MB: Maybe volleyball or basketball. Those are hand-oriented sports so as a goalkeeper I'm halfway there.
