Rutgers Athletics to Host Season-Long Student Tailgate
Aug 31 | Football
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers Athletics will sponsor a student tailgate for all seven football home games during the 2016 season. Nicknamed "The Alley," the student tailgate will be located in the gravel lot across from the Werblin Recreation Center on Busch campus.
"The Alley will be a fun, exciting place where students can get together on gameday," said Rutgers Athletic Director Pat Hobbs. "There was a need to address the tailgating options for our students and we are excited to provide them with this opportunity."
All Rutgers students are permitted to enter The Alley, but only student organizations are allowed to obtain a parking hangtag to reserve a spot in the tailgate. Twenty-five hangtags will be administered on a first-come, first-serve basis at noon on Thursdays prior to gameday on the steps of Brower Commons on the College Avenue campus. Hangtag distribution will take place in the lobby of Brower Commons if inclement weather is present.
"We want to provide students with every opportunity to enjoy their football gameday experience," said head football coach Chris Ash. "Student involvement is a critical element to the energy in the stadium and we look forward to them bringing that passion on gameday."
Student organizations can only obtain one parking hangtag per group and must submit the license plate number of the car entering the tailgate area. The Alley will open five hours prior to kickoff and will close to vehicle parking two hours prior to kickoff.
Charcoal grills are permitted in The Alley. Charcoal must be discarded in specifically-marked yellow barrels located throughout the parking lot. More information on University tailgate policies can be found here.
