Women's Cross Country Takes Third At Metropolitan Championships

All Seven Scarlet Knights Finish Among the Field's Top 25
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's cross country team, ranked 15th in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Poll, raced to a third place finish for the second-straight year at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday afternoon.
All seven Rutgers entries finished among the top 25 with only 13.4 seconds separating the first and final Scarlet Knights over the finish line. In all, four Scarlet Knights captured new personal bests.
RU was led by sophomore Nadia Saponara's 12th place performance with a new PR of 19:12.6 taking off 44.3 seconds off her previous top 5K time set at last year's Metropolitan Championships.
Classmate Emma Bergman captured 14th in 19:14.5 followed by three teammates rounding out the top 20. Freshman Olympia Martin made her Metropolitan Championship debut taking 18th in 19:23.2, junior Genevieve Cickavage took 10 seconds off her PR with a time of 19:23.9 to take 19th and freshman Kaitlyn Bragen reset her PR by 22 seconds with a time of 19:25.8 to place 20th.
Other Scarlet Knights across the finish line included Alexandra Juzwiak in 21st in 19:30.5 and sophomore Lou Miahle setting a new PR besting her previous top finish by 14 seconds with 19:40.0 in 24th place.
Manhattan won the 2017 running of the Metropolitan Championships, while last year's champion, Fordham, was runner-up. Following Rutgers in the standings were Iona in fourth place and Seton Hall taking fifth overall.
The Rutgers women's cross country squad returns to action on Sunday, October 29th at the Big Ten Championships hosted by Indiana.
