Gotterup Leads After Day One of Georgetown Intercollegiate
Oct 16 | Men's Golf
BEALLSVILLE, Md. --- Battling 20-25 mile-per-hour wind gusts and brisk conditions, freshman Christopher Gotterup is atop the leaderboard after the first two rounds of the Georgetown Intercollegiate in Beallsville, Maryland.
Despite adverse conditions, Rutgers men's golf is tied for second with a 603 (301-302) scorecard with one round to play. The Scarlet Knights are just four strokes back of Seton Hall, who leads the field with a two-round total of 599 (306-293)
Gotterup topped the leaderboard after the first 18 holes, as he finished with a one-under-par 70. Gotterup was the only golfer in the 60-player field to conclude the round at under par. Despite a 75 scorecard in the second round, the rookie navigated the harsh conditions to keep his lead heading into Tuesday.
Senior Matt Holuta also had a strong opening round, as the Indiana, Pennsylvania native tied for second with an even 71. Holuta is now tied for fourth after he carded a five-over-par 76 in round two.
The rest of RU's starters improved from rounds one to two. Freshman Oliver Whatley finished Monday tied for 33rd (155: 80-75), while sophomore Tony Jiang is tied for 37th with a two-round score of 156 (80-76). Senior Toks Pedro is tied for 40th (81-76) with one round to play.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Adam Gray closed out Monday tied for 28th (154: 80-74).
Due to impending frost, tomorrow's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. at the Members Club at Four Streams. There will be no live scoring available on Tuesday.
