Scarlet Knights Enter Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll at No. 15
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – After a weekend that saw seven Scarlet Knights collect personal bests, the Rutgers women's cross country team moved into this week's USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Regional Rankings on Monday. The Scarlet Knights enter at No. 15.
"I'm glad the ladies can see some positive results from their efforts via breaking into the regional rankings this week," said head coach James Robinson. "As we continue to improve weekly, the end goal was to break into the top ten in the region. We're on the board and now we need to keep bettering our rank as the season continues."
Rutgers returns to the polls for the first time since the early weeks of the 2016 season where the Scarlet Knights ranked 13th in the region for the first three weeks of the season.
Over the weekend, seven of Rutgers' 10 runners captured new PR's at the Paul Short Invitational. The Scarlet Knights' top six runners were only 50 seconds apart in a field that featured 367 runners, including four-nationally ranked programs.
The Scarlet Knights boast a youthful roster with freshman Olympia Martin coming in as RU's top finisher in all three meets to date. Sophomores Emma Bergman and Stephanie Mauer have each posted PR's in Rutgers last two meets, while fellow classmate Nadia Saponara was among the top 10 finishers at the Lehigh Invitational in the beginning of the season.
The veteran harriers also continue to improve this fall. Senior Alexandra Juzwiak, who was the top Scarlet Knight across the finish line at last year's Big Ten Championships and NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, captured her best 6K time since the 2014 season at last weekend's Paul Short.
The Rutgers women's cross country team enters the championship portion of the schedule in two weeks. The Scarlet Knights return to racing at the Metropolitan Championships in Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, Oct. 13.
