Colgate (4-10) responded with two runs in the top of the seventh to reclaim the lead, 5-3. Rutgers tacked on a run in the final frame, but that is as close as the Scarlet Knights would come.

After Anico led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, junior Carly Todd would go on to reach on an error. With two outs, Wells used a double to send in both runs and tie the score up, 3-3.
A double play for the Rutgers defense in the top half of the sixth held the score knotted at 3-3. However, in the latter half of the inning, the Scarlet Knights would strand a runner on base.
Colgate reclaimed its lead with two runs on three hits in the seventh. Sweeney notched a strikeout to close the frame without any further damage and give RU another shot at the plate.
A leadoff hit for Todd, a Raider error, and a hit by pitch for freshman Taryn Atlee loaded the bases for RU in the bottom of the seventh. A two-out single for Hoklotubbe sent two runners headed for home. Although Todd would score, Colgate registered the out on the following runner to close the contest.
