Softball Set for Midweek at Hofstra

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After opening Big Ten play last weekend, the Rutgers softball team travels to Hofstra for a nonconference, midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 29. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET in Hempstead, New York.

RU'S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (8-21, 1-2 Big Ten) opened Big Ten play at Indiana over the weekend, picking up a 7-5 win in the finale after suffering a pair of setbacks to begin the series. Junior Sierra Maddox hit two home runs and tallied a total of four RBIs to lift the Scarlet Knights to victory on Saturday.
Classmate Rebecca Hall posted a homer of her own in the win, ranking second in the Big Ten with nine homers on the season and eighth with 28 RBIs. Freshman Taryn Atlee notched four hits in the contest. The rookie ranks ninth in the league with a .404 batting average overall and fifth with a .636 in conference games.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
Hofstra (10-12, 1-2 CAA) opened Colonial Athletic Conference action with then- No. 10 James Madison, dropping the first two games of the series before upsetting the Dukes in the finale.
Lacey Clark leads the lineup with a .361 batting average, including 22 hits and 10 RBIs. In the circle, Sarah Cornell owns a 3.24 ERA in a team-high 86.1 innings pitched to go with a 9-5 win-loss record.
SERIES VERSUS THE PRIDE
Dating back to 1976, Hofstra owns a 26-13 lead in the all-time series. The Pride earned a 3-1, extra-inning win over RU in February of this season at the FGCU Four Points Invite.
Prior to this year's meeting, RU had claimed wins in the last two meetings, including a 7-6 victory in 2016 and 3-1 win in 2014.
