Men's Track and Field Places Second at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Rutgers men's track and field finished second at the 52nd annual Colonial Relays, hosted by William and Mary, Saturday in Williamsburg, Va. The Scarlet Knights earned two individual titles and two relay victories en route to 94 team points during weekend action.
In his first action since he claimed the 400m indoor title at the Big Ten Conference Championships, sophomore Izaiah Brown earned the 400m event Saturday with a time of 46.50. Brown also helped RU claim victories in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Brown, senior Emeka Eze, freshman Alanzo Aris and senior Jordan Jimerson clocked in at 41.47 in the 4x100m relay to claim the event title. Brown, Aris, Jimerson all teamed with senior Kyle Holder for a win in the 4x400m relay with a result of 3:10.89.
Rutgers' other individual winner came courtesy of Perry Christie. The rookie produced a mark of 1.99m (6' 6.25") in the high jump, just missing a PR in the event. In the triple jump, classmate Tobi Tella added a second-place leap of 14.91 (48' 11").
Holder continued his strong start to the outdoor campaign with his time of 53.25 in the 400m hurdles, good for second. Senior Brendan Jaeger added an IC4A qualifying standard in the 800m with his third-place time of 1:51.66.
Aris, Brown, Eze and Jimerson also competed in the 4x200m relay and finished third with a time of 1:26.94.
Two Scarlet Knights added IC4A qualifying distances in the discus. Freshman Jason Campbell added a fourth-place mark of 50.76m (166' 6"), while sophomore John Mooers placed fifth with a result of 50.44m (165' 6"). Both were PR's.
On Thursday, sophomore Conor Murphy produced a strong performance in the 3000m, finishing fourth in the event with a time of 8:32.97.
Due to inclement weather on Friday, the javelin event was cancelled. Junior Christopher Mirabelli and senior Thomas Carr entered the weekend with second and third-best results in the Big Ten, respectively.
The Scarlet Knights split up in their next time out, sending athletes to the Tennessee Dogwood Relays from April 7-8 in Knoxville. RU will also have participants in the Sam Howell Invitational that Friday and Saturday in Princeton, New Jersey.
