Women's T/F To Host Metropolitan Outdoor Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Rutgers women's track and field team will play host to the 2017 Metropolitan Outdoor Championships this weekend at the Bauer Track and Field Complex.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Scarlet Knights collected five top five finishes at the Tennessee Dogwood Relays, a meet that featured five nationally ranked programs along with three Big Ten squads.
Senior Sarah Robbie collected a new PR in the 800m (2:09.59) in her fifth place performance, while junior Bria Saunders posted a fourth place finish in 100m (11.72) and fifth place finish in the 200m (23.76). Saunders' 200m time was only .02 seconds off her PR.
In the field, RU saw sophomore Rhonda Rogombe clear 1.65m (5' 5") for fourth in the high jump and senior Katherine Johnston take fifth in the javelin at 42.84m (140' 7).
AROUND THE BIG TEN:
Robbie's Tennessee Dogwood Relay time in the 800m currently puts her in ninth place in the Big Ten.
Saunders, meanwhile, ranks seventh in the 200m and 10th in the 100m following last weekend's competition.
DID YOU KNOW:
Fifth-year senior Paige Senatore has collected five Metropolitan Championship titles during her career.
The Delsea, New Jersey native won the 3000m title during the indoor season this winter in addition to earning the 5000m indoor title in 2015, the 5000m outdoor title in 2016 and the 2014 & 2015 cross country titles.
LAST TIME AT METROPOLITAN OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Rutgers had to battle the elements at last year's Metropolitan Outdoor Championships, where the Scarlet Knights took second place as a team.
RU garnered event victories in the 100m, 5000m, 100m hurdles, 4x100m and 4x800m relays.
Paige Senatore took home of one of her five career Metropolitan Championship titles last season in the 5000m with a then-PR of 17:22.31.
In the 100m hurdles, Sabrina Alexander captured the top spot racing to a first place time of 14.97.
In the relays, Phyllis Gordon and Bria Saunders helped the 4x100m to first place in 45.78 while the 4x800m relay team including returning Scarlet Knights Ellen Miller and Jenna Sobieski brought home a title with their combined time of 9:35.18
Bryanna Grant continued her success in the triple jump by winning her third-straight title of the 2016 outdoor season. Grant led the way at a distance of 11.61m (38' 1.25").
Oksana Sokolova also managed to overcome the elements to take first in the high jump. She cleared the bar at a height of 1.60 (5' 3") for the event title.
