Softball Hits Road for Iowa

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After a short stop at home, the Rutgers softball team hits the road again for a three-game series at Iowa from April 14-16. Friday and Saturday's contests will be streamed live on BTN Plus, while all will be accompanied with live stats.

RU'S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (10-27, 1-8 Big Ten) opened its home slate with Nebraska over the weekend after starting the season with 34-straight games on the road. The Scarlet Knights dropped the three-game set with the Cornhuskers, including a high-scoring 15-12 loss in the middle game of the series.
Freshman Anyssa Iliopoulos capped off a breakout week by registering a .400 batting average in the series versus Nebraska, including a 1.000 slugging percentage and a flawless fielding percentage at third base. Overall, Iliopoulos batted .429 across four games on the week, including the first three home runs of her career and a 1.071 slugging percentage.
Classmate Taryn Atlee ranks sixth in the Big Ten with a .411 batting average and second with 51 hits. Junior Rebecca Hall ranks third in home runs (11) and eighth in RBIs (35).
SCOUTING IOWA
Iowa (12-23, 5-6 Big Ten) is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Nebraska on Wednesday night. Over the weekend, the Hawkeyes dropped its series, 1-2, at Wisconsin.
In the circle, Shayla Starkenburg leads the staff with a 2.67 ERA in 84.0 innings pitched with a 4-9 win-loss record. Allison Doocy follows with a 3.09 ERA in 97.1 innings and a 7-9 record. Starkenburg ranks 12th in the league in ERA, while Doocy ranks sixth with 83 batters struck out. Kaitlyn Mullarkey leads the Hawkeye lineup with a .283 batting average, 28 hits and 16 RBIs.
SERIES VERSUS THE HAWKEYES
Dating back to 1988, the Hawkeyes lead the series over the Scarlet Knights, 5-0. The teams last met at the 2015 Big Ten Tournament. Despite holding a 3-0 lead through five innings, seventh-seeded Rutgers was topped by 10th-seeded Iowa, 5-3, in the first round.
