Saunders, Johnston Capture Titles at Georgia Tech Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. - Junior Bria Saunders captured the 200m title with a new PR and senior Katherine Johnston also took home first place in the javelin to highlight the Rutgers women's track and field results this weekend from the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Saunders was the top finisher in the 200m in a time of 23.55 setting a new personal benchmark. The Parsippany, New Jersey native's previous top time in the event was 23.74 set at last season's Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
Saunders also placed eighth in the 100m (11.85) and anchored the 4x100m relay team that also included Lynnea Davis, Phyllis Gordon and Nabiya Garrett to an eighth place finish (47.46).
Johnston, meanwhile, collected her second javelin title of the season with a throw of 46.22m (151' 8"). Her distance was nearly 4.4m farther than the second place finisher.
Other notable track performances included a season-best time for sophomore Phyllis Gordon in the 400m. The Neptune, New Jersey product took eighth with her time of 54.96.
Rutgers also had two other top five performances on the field. Freshman Alison Chomsky claimed fifth place at a distance of 37.78m (123' 11") in the javelin. Sophomore Rhonda Rogombe placed fourth in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.68m (5' 6").
RU also had Scarlet Knights participate at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton as well this weekend.
Notable results from the Larry Ellis Invitational included a season-best time by Paige Senatore in the 5000m (17:15.02) and PR by Alexandra Juzwiak in the 3000m (10:19.50).
The Rutgers women's track and field team will be back to competition at the prestigious Penn Relays held at Franklin Field on April 27-29.
