Softball Welcomes Michigan State for Weekend Series

PISCATAWAY, N.J.- Beginning an eight-game homestand to close out the regular season, the Rutgers softball team hosts Michigan State for a three-game series from April 28-30.
After competing in 40 of 43 games on the road, Rutgers will have eight straight at home in a span of 10 days.

RU'S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (12-31, 3-12 Big Ten) closed its weekend at Penn State with a 6-4 comeback victory in the finale. Freshman Nicole Bowman sent in the winning runs with a three-RBI hit in the top of the seventh. Sophomore Whitney Jones, who entered in relief, retired seven consecutive batters at the plate to end the contest.
Junior Rebecca Hall posted a career-high six RBIs in the series opener en route to moving into fourth on Rutgers single-season charts with 44 RBIs this season. The total also ranks fifth in the Big Ten. Freshman Taryn Atlee ranks fourth in the league with a .411 batting average and first in hits with 60.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
Last weekend, Michigan State (25-19, 7-10 Big Ten) picked up a series win over Ohio State, winning the first two games before dropping the finale. The Spartans then earned a win over Eastern Michigan and fell to Central Michigan in midweek contests.
Lea Foerster leads the lineup with a .391 batting average, .805 slugging percentage, and .524 on base percentage. Foerster ranks top 10 in the Big Ten in nine categories, including first in doubles (17) and runs scored (54). Bridgette Rainey has seen the most time in the circle with 104.2 innings, a 12-7 win-loss record and a 4.35 ERA.
SERIES VERSUS THE SPARTANS
Michigan State holds an 8-6 edge in the all-time series, while Rutgers owns a 4-2 advantage in matchups as conference foes. In 2015, Rutgers secured a series sweep before falling 1-2 in the series in 2016.
