PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Rutgers' three relay entries all captured season bests and senior Katherine Johnston placed fourth in the javelin to highlight the Scarlet Knights' results from the 123rd running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
The 4x800m, sprint medley and distance medley relays all posted their top times of the 2017 outdoor season.
The 4x800m team of sophomore Jenna Sobieski, seniors Sarah Robbie and Kaitlyn Bedard and junior Brianna Haspel took sixth in a time of 8:59.09. The Scarlet Knight quartet knocked off over 14 seconds from their previous top time of the season of 8:13.92 set at the Tennessee Relays.
The sprint medley relay squad bested their previous top time by nearly 24 seconds. The group of juniors Oksana Sokolova and Bria Saunders, sophomore Phyllis Gordon and Robbie logged a time of 3:54.52 to take eighth, The Scarlet Knights topped their previous top performance of the year of 4:18.02 from the Colonial Relays.
The distance medley relay of Bedard, Gordon, Haspel and fifth-year senior Paige Senatore, meanwhile, collected a time of 11:53.91 to take 13th.
Rutgers also had a pair of top ten performances in the javelin and high jump.
Johnston threw for a distance of 44.54m (146' 1") in the javelin, marking her sixth finish in the top four of the event on the season.
Sophomore Rhonda Rogombe placed seventh at a height of 1.70m (5' 7") in the high jump.
The Rutgers women's track and field team will now turn its focus onto the 2017 Big Ten Outdoor Championships hosted by Penn State on May 12-14.
