Katherine Johnston Named B1G Sportmanship Honoree

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Senior Katherine Johnston was recognized as one of the Big Ten's women's outdoor track and field Sportsmanship Award recipients, it was announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
The Big Ten Conference office recognizes student-athletes from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Johnston was the Big Ten runner-up in the javelin last weekend. The Moorestown, New Jersey native advanced to the finals of the event after throwing for 47.52m on her second attempt. Then in her second-to-last throw of the competition, Johnston set a new personal best with a distance of 49.10m (161' 1") to secure the silver medal.
Johnston will be competing next week at the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky. She currently ranks 19th in the region.
