PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers softball team fell to No. 19 Michigan in its season finale on Sunday afternoon at the RU Softball Complex.

Seniors Bridget Carr, Dana Hendry, Aubrie Levine, Shayla Sweeney, and Carly Todd played in their final contests "On the Banks." All five saw action in Sunday's contest, as Sweeney and Levine shared time in the circle. Todd and Carr started at center field and first base, respectively, while Hendry drew a walk as a pinch hitter.

Michigan was led by Faith Canfield with four hits, three RBIs and three runs in the contest. Megan Betsa picked up her 23rd win in the circle for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines generated a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Sweeney and the defense held it there by stranding three runners on base. Michigan then tacked on three more runs in the second, but once again Rutgers stranded multiple runners on in the frame to keep it a 5-0 margin.

However, as the RU bats remained quiet, UM capitalized on consistent hitting and Scarlet Knight errors to take control of the contest for good.

Rutgers closed its year with an overall record of 14-37 and 5-18 in the Big Ten, while Michigan finished 41-10-1 overall and 20-3 in the league.

KNIGHT NOTES
- RU competed in just its 11 home contests out of 51 games on its slate in 2017.
- Rebecca Hall finished the season with 46 RBIs, ranking third on Rutgers single-season charts.
- Hall also finished tied for fourth on the charts with 12 home runs and sits at third all-time on the career charts with 22 total homers.
-Taryn Atlee finished second on the single-season charts with 66 hits in her rookie campaign. She sits behind only Rutgers great Carla Camino with 92 hits in 1993.
- Shayla Sweeney finished in the top 10 of Rutgers career records in saves (5), wins (34), innings pitched (418.1) and shutouts (5).
