Women's Track & Field Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

The Rutgers women's track and field team was named an All-Academic Team for the 2016-17 season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced on Friday.
To qualify for the team, schools must attain at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade point average. The Scarlet Knights achieved a 3.317 grade point average for the academic year.
In addition to their success in the classroom, the Scarlet Knight's women's track and field program also had a number of notable athletic achievements as well.
During the indoor season, junior Bria Saunders was named the ECAC Championships "Most Outstanding Performer" after capturing silver in the 60m and 200m. She also set a new school record in the 300m (39.25) at the Beantown Challenge. Senior Bryanna Grant, who totaled four triple jump titles during the indoor season, took gold in the event at the ECAC Championships with a new school record (12.62 m/41' 5"). Additionally, Rutgers captured four Metropolitan Championship indoor titles. Along with Grant repeating as the triple jump champion, titles were also brought home by senior Sarah Robbie (800m), junior Brianna Haspel (1000m) and fifth-year senior Paige Senatore (3000m).
The outdoor season saw three Scarlet Knights qualify for the NCAA regional – sophomore Rhonda Rogombe (high jump), graduate student Katherine Johnston (javelin) and Saunders (200m). Johnston, who was a Big Ten silver medalist in the javelin, led the RU contingent with a 15th place finish at regionals. RU also captured the Metropolitan Outdoor Championship team title behind nine event victories and six runner-up performances. Saunders racked up a trio of Met titles (100m, 200m, 4x100m), while junior Phyllis Gordon (400m, 4x100m) and Robbie (800m, 4x800m) earned a pair of titles as well.
