Rutgers Athletics Celebrates Military Appreciation Day

Record 5,672 tickets donated & distributed to military personnel through R Heroes program for Saturday’s football game against Morgan State
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers Athletics has announced a number of activities planned for this weekend's football game against Morgan State to celebrate Military Appreciation Day.
Through the R Heroes program, as part of Military Appreciation Day, Rutgers football fans were given the opportunity to purchase and donate tickets to active-duty and veteran members of the armed forces, and their families. The campaign hit an all-time high this year with 5,672 tickets donated and distributed for Saturday's game.
"We're humbled by the tremendous generosity that Rutgers nation displayed in helping us show our gratitude to the men and women who protect and serve our country every day," said Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and Strategic Communications Rick Thorpe. "Collectively, this is a just a small gesture that we are able to offer our veteran and active-duty members of the armed forces as a thank you for all of their service for our country."
In addition to the record amount of military personnel set to attend this weekend's game, Military Appreciation Day will feature a number of events and activities. A military vehicle will lead the team escort down Scarlet Knight Way, where it will remain as a static display for fans to observe prior to the game. Military personnel from each branch will also participate in the team's arrival in the North Plaza for the Scarlet Walk.
Prior to kickoff, 125 Rutgers ROTC cadets will carry an American flag that will span half the football field during the national anthem. The Rutgers band will also use the American flag during its halftime performance.
Military officials will also serve as honorary captains for the game and there will be on-field recognitions of current service members and veterans during the game.
