PISCATAWAY – Coming off a strong, fourth place showing at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Kansas, women's golf heads to University Park (Pa.) to compete in the Nittany Lion Invitational this weekend. After a practice round on Friday, 36 holes will be contested on Saturday, before a final round on Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course.
Redshirt junior Ashleigh Greenham (1), seniors Emily Mills (2) and Tatum Jackson (3), and freshmen Harriet Allsebrook (4) and Lori Char (5) will comprise the competing five for the Scarlet Knights in the annual event that was won by the host Nittany Lions for the 21st time last season. Sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee will compete individually.
Rutgers tied for third with a 912 (304-311-297) total in the nine-team tournament last September. The Scarlet Knights were one of two teams to have multiple competitors place among the top 10. Greenham carded a 217 (73-72-72) to place second, one stroke off the pace, in the 61-player field, while Mills tied for eighth with a 224 (76-76-72). It marked the second top 10 performance for Mills at the event, after a third place finish in 2015.
On the heels of a school record tying 287 in the second round, Rutgers concluded the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in fourth place with a 904 (309-287-308) total earlier this week. Greenham carded a school record 66 on Monday en route a fourth place finish in the 51-player field with a 219 (78-66-75).
The Nittany Lion Invitational is the third of five events on the fall schedule for Rutgers, which is under the leadership of fourth-year head coach Kari Williams. Saturday and Sunday rounds will begin via shotgun starts with live scoring available on golfstat.
