Walkowiak Wins 1-Meter at Ohio State Quad

Senior diver adds runner-up finish on the platform competition
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Jan. 20, 2018) – Senior Addison Walkowiak earned the victory in 1-meter diving to pace Rutgers swimming and diving in a quad-meet at No. 11 Ohio State with No. 2 Michigan and No. 24 Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at the Buckeyes' McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
The McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion will serve as the host site for the upcoming Big Ten Championships (Feb. 14-17) and the NCAA Championships (March 14-17).
With a score of 312.83 in the 1-meter competition, Walkowiak topped the field of 16 for her 10th diving event win of the season. Junior Rachel Byrne was sixth with 255.23.
The teammates again occupied the top-third of the finals in platform diving, where Walkowiak scored a runner-up finish with 254.55 points. Byrne was fifth of 16 with a mark of 226.65.
In the lanes, sophomore Francesca Bertotto finished in the top half of the pool in both of her distance races, taking seventh of 16 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 10th of 20 in the 500.
Sophomore Clare Lawlor impressed in the 50-yard freestyle among a trio of nationally recognized sprinters from Ohio State and Michigan. The Orland Park, Illinois native placed 10th on Saturday in the pool of 21 by stopping the clock at 24.14, separated from the third place finisher – reigning Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Gabby DeLoof of Michigan – by one second.
Lawlor's classmate, Federica Greco, turned in an eighth place finish against 15 entrants in the 200-yard butterfly, touching in at 2:02.64.
Another step closer to the Big Ten meet, the Scarlet Knights have one more dual meet to prepare for championship season. RU hosts Nebraska at the Rutgers Aquatics Center on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27. Friday's session begins at 6 p.m., followed by a Saturday start of 10 a.m.
