NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rutgers had a strong showing on Friday at the ITA Northeast Regional Women's Championships at Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Four Scarlet Knights earned singles victories and will work to advance further under the leadership of head coach
Hilary Ritchie.
- Freshman Tess Fisher defeated Army's Stephanie Dolehide (6-1, 4-6, 6-3) and advances to meet Princeton's Nicole Kalhorn at 9 a.m. Saturday.
- Junior Katherine Muzik downed Binghamton's Samara Eisenberg (6-0, 6-4) and will play Shelly Yaloz of Boston University at 9 a.m. Saturday.
- Freshman Sydney Kaplan rallied from and opening set loss to defeat Providence's Risa Takenaka and advances to meet Princeton's Clare McKee at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
- Sophomore Maya Jacobs downed Hofstra's Michal Kaplan (6-3, 6-0) and will play Arina Tauuyenko of Fordham at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
- In doubles action, freshman Kristiana Zahare and junior Jaci Cochrane grinded-out an 8-6 victory over Janja Koavacevic and Jodie Lawrence-Taylor of UMass to advance.
- Jacobs and Kaplan suffered an 8-0 doubles loss against Army's Ana Joyner and Melanie Allen.
- Zahare also competed in singles on Friday, but was unable to overcome Yale's Kathy Wang, who was competing on her home court.
The ITA Northeast Regional Women's Championships are the third of four events in which the Scarlet Knights will compete this fall.
