Tennis Opens Weekend at UB Fall Invite
Oct 26 | Women's Tennis
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Rutgers tennis opened its weekend at UB Fall Invited hosted by the University at Buffalo on Friday. The Scarlet Knights won two of three doubles matches and four of seven singles matches against opponents from UConn.
"The team was hungry to play UConn today," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "Last year, we had a tough loss to them where we felt as though we could have capitalized better on our opportunities. Today we were very strong in doubles, dominating the net."
In doubles action, the duo of junior Kat Muzik and freshman Tess Fisher maintained momentum from a semifinal finish at the ITA Northeast Regionals. The pair topped the Huskies' pair of Gillian Perotta and Julienne Bou by a score of 6-2.
Sophomore Maya Jacobs and junior Jaci Cochrane earned a victory over Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph and Luciana Rabines by a margin of 6-4.
Freshmen Sydney Kaplan and Kristiana Zahare, Jacobs and Fisher all recorded singles wins.
Kaplan earned a deciding 6-3, 6-0 win over UConn's Cassie Chung, while Jacobs recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over Fitz-Randolph. Fisher posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Bou, while Zahare battled to a 7-5, 6-3 (10-6) triumph over the Huskies' Elizabeth Kozyi.
