Dymek Top 10 at Speedo Winter Junior Championships

Rutgers rookie finishes runner-up in consolation final of the 200-yard butterfly
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Dec. 10, 2018) – Rutgers swimming and diving freshman Kasja Dymek placed 10th in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2018 Speedo Winter Junior Championships-East on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The USA Swimming Championships Series event played host to the top United States native high school and college swimmers aged 18 and younger in a four-day meet, including Dymek and classmate Nora Woods.
Dymek qualified for the 200 Fly consolation finals with a 1:59.93 in the preliminary heat on Saturday morning, which ranked 14th heading into the final session that evening. Dymek shaved time in the consolation final (1:59.50), her fastest time of the season in the event, and placed 10th overall.
On Friday, Dymek missed a finals invitation by just eight-hundredths of a second, finishing 26th in the 100 Fly prelims in 55 seconds flat.
Woods swam in a pair of preliminary heats at the Championships and turned in a 1:06.10 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 2:22.79 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Both times were season bests for the freshman.
The Scarlet Knights are on break from team competition until a home tri-meet with Princeton and Villanova on Jan. 12, 2019. In the meantime, the team is preparing for a winter training trip to Puerto Rico and Southern California from Dec. 28 – Jan. 8.
