PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's outdoor track and field team will be among the 15 schools from around the country competing at the 51st annual Tennesee Relays.
Competition begins on Thursday and continues on Friday and Saturday with a live stream available from ESPN3.
A LOOK AT THE FIELD
Selena Thorne, who will kick off competition for the Scarlet Knights on Thursday in the heptathlon, is currently ranked fourth in the event in the Big Ten. The sophomore Scarlet Knight compiled 3,822 points in taking sixth at the Bulls Invitational hosted by South Florida in late March, where she set PRs in the 100m hurdles, shot put and javelin.
Friday will feature Oniesha Clarke in two events, the 100m and long jump. The junior has won a title in both events this season with a PR of 11.76 to take first at the Bulls Invitational and a career best of 6.07m (19' 11') in taking the long jump title last week at the Sam Howell Invitational down in Princeton. Clarke is currently ranked ninth in the Big Ten in the 100m and sixth in the league in the long jump.
All four entries in the 5000m on Friday rank among the top 25 in the Big Ten with sophomore Nadia Saponara leading the pack of Rutgers harriers after her performance two weeks ago at the Florida Relays. On her heals is classmate Kiera Nealon, who last week won the unseeded section of the 5000m at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton.
Lou Mialhe returns to the steeplechase in Knoxville on Friday. In her last appearance, the redshirt freshman runner set a new Rutgers record of 11:15.52 at the Florida Relays.
On Saturday, Bryanna Grant will take to the runway in the triple jump, where she is currently ranked third in the Big Ten and 20th in the East Region. A fifth-year senior, she reached her top distance of the season at 12.49m (40' 11.75") in a first place performance at the Bulls Invitational.
