Football Adds Delaware to 2021 Schedule

Scarlet Knights and Blue Hens last met in 1973
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football added a matchup against Delaware to finalize its 2021 schedule. The Scarlet Knights and Blue Hens will meet at HighPoint.com Stadium on Sept. 18, 2021. The two teams last played in 1973.
RU will open the season at home against Temple (Sept. 4) and travel to Syracuse (Sept. 11) before closing out the non-conference portion of the regular season with UD in 2021.
Rutgers owns a 15-13-3 advantage all-time versus Delaware. The programs first met in 1901 and faced off each year through 1908. The series resumed with seven contests in the 1920s and 1930s before meetings in 16-of-19 seasons from 1955 to 1973.
The photo above is from the 1961 season. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Blue Hens, 27-19, after overcoming an early 13-0 deficit. The victory improved RU to 7-0 on the way to an undefeated 9-0 campaign.
Delaware is currently a member of the Colonial Athletic Association.
