PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics today released a report conducted to aid the development of a comprehensive, multi-dimensional plan to reach competitiveness in a fiscally responsible manner. Prepared by industry-leader College Sports Solutions (CSS), the
report identifies areas of opportunity and illustrates challenges for the Scarlet Knights in the relentless pursuit of excellence.
"The CSS report provides independent confirmation of the challenges and opportunities before us as we continue the work of transforming Rutgers Athletics into a competitive program," said Director of Athletics Pat Hobbs." Jeff Schemmel and his team recognize our unique position as a member of the Big Ten and the only Power 5 program in the nation's largest media market. We will digest their findings, and develop and execute an action plan to exploit every identified opportunity."
"Rutgers University Athletics has challenges to navigate and assets to develop in order to sustain growth," said Rutgers University Board of Governors member Greg Brown. "The key to achieving these initiatives is clarity of mission and an engaged leadership that welcomes ideas and pursues feedback. With the student-athlete experience as a primary focus, tremendous progress has already been made under Pat Hobbs. Consulting with industry leaders, such as CSS, in a transparent manner to quantify opportunity furthers this progress."
"We are very appreciative of the cooperation and courtesy extended to us by President Barchi, Pat Hobbs and the Rutgers leadership throughout this process," said Jeff Schemmel, President of CSS. "In developing reports such as this, we seek to learn as much as possible about the institution and its athletics enterprise, and then provide the very best information, research, analysis and advice. Our findings at Rutgers indicate a strong foundation and tremendous potential for success. Although there have been, and will continue to be financial hurdles, that foundation along with its location and Big Ten affiliation, provide Rutgers a unique opportunity to build its brand and enhance not only its athletics profile, but that of the entire University."
Rutgers Athletics announced its partnership with CSS on April 12, 2018.
