Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Five Straight with 73-52 Victory Over Brown

Scarlet Knights improve to 7-0 at the RAC this season

PICATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball closed out its nonconference slate with a 73-52 victory over Brown on Friday evening at the RAC. The victory extended the Scarlet Knights' win streak to five straight and home unbeaten record to 7-0.  

RU moved to an overall record of 10-3 and a nonconference mark of 6-0 at home. Brown fell to 8-8 overall on the season.

Senior forward Stasha Carey led Rutgers with 12 points and 10 rebounds, marking her second double-double of the season and second-straight game with double-digit scoring. Freshman guard Noga Peleg Pelc followed with a career-high and game-high 19 points, including a career-best four 3-pointers. Junior center Jordan Wallace wrapped up the double-digit scorers with a career-high 12 points.

Overall, all 11 Scarlet Knights that hit the court contributed to scoring in the game.

Brown as paced by Taylor Will and Shayna Mehta with 15 points and 10 points, respectively.

FIRST QUARTER
Rutgers and Brown opened the contest by trading points to keep the score balanced across the first minutes of play. Midway through the frame, the Scarlet Knights found an 11-4 run, as a Peleg Pelc 3-pointer capped the surge and put RU ahead 21-15.

SECOND QUARTER
The Scarlet Knights carried their advantage into the second quarter, finding a 9-4 run to extend its lead to 30-21 at the 5:39 mark.

Brown attempted to counter the surge as the teams returned to trading baskets like the opening minutes. Rutgers held off the Bears to carry a 33-28 lead into halftime.

THIRD QUARTER
Entering the second half, scoring remained even throughout the third quarter, as neither team found a surge. The Scarlet Knights held onto its edge by leading in scoring, 16-13.

Five-straight points for Peleg Pelc, including a 3-pointer and jumper, closed the quarter with a 49-41 lead for RU.

FOURTH QUARTER
Peleg Pelc extended her surge into the final frame, sinking another bucket from beyond the arc to grow RU's lead to double digits, 52-41.

The Scarlet Knights would go on to lead by as many as 25 down the stretch, as a 7-0 run in the middle of the frame set the lead at 70-45. RU held a margin of at least 20 points to close out the victory and remain unbeaten at the RAC.

KNIGHT NOTES:

  • Rutgers ends nonconference play at 8-3 overall. The Scarlet Knights finished perfect in home nonconference action for the second-straight season going 6-0 in 2018-19 and 8-0 in 2017-18.
  • It was the sixth time this season RU posted a double-figure rebounding margin (44-25, +19) and largest since outhauling St. Francis by 44 (73-29) in the season opener.
  • Stasha Carey performed her second double-double of the season and 19th of her career. She tied her season-high with her 10 boards, a mark also set in the season opener with St. Francis on Nov. 6.
  • Noga Peleg Pelc logged a new career mark in points with 19, surpassing her previous best of 15 set in the season opener with St. Francis back on Nov. 6.
  • Jordan Wallace also set a new benchmark in scoring with her first double-digit scoring effort with 12 points. Her previous high was seven against Central Connecticut State on Nov. 13.
  • RU's 12 turnovers tied for a season-low in miscues. The Scarlet Knights also had 12 turnovers in the Albany victory on Nov. 18.
  • Rutgers, leads the Big Ten in steals, has averaged 12.2 thefts in the last five games.
  • The Scarlet Knights 30 3-pointers attempted were a season high.
