REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Women's golf is third with a 587 (292-295) total after the initial two rounds of the 12-team Lady Blue Hen Invitational, played Saturday at Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Three Scarlet Knights are among the top 10 in the 68-player field entering Sunday's final 18 holes.
Freshman Anna-Maria Diederichs, senior Carrie-Ann Lee and junior Eun Won Park are playing well in RU's final tournament of the fall. Diederichs is tied for third with an even par 144 (72-72), while Lee (72-74) and Park (72-74) are tied for seventh at 146.
"Conditions were scoreable today with a few accessible pins and calmer winds than our practice round," said Rutgers head coach Kari Williams. "We had solid play today from Anna-Maria, Carrie-Ann and Eun Won, which helped us solidify our position on the leaderboard."
Diederichs is minus two on par fives, minus one on par threes and has seven birdies on the par-72, 6,169-yard course. She contributed to 19 RU birdies on day one.
Sophomore Maeve Rossi is tied for 25th with a 151 (76-75) to complete a shortened scorecard. Junior Harriet Allsebrook withdrew from the tournament in round one. As such, in the five-play, four-count format, the Scarlet Knights are unable to discard a score.
Freshmen Leigha Devine and Nicole Ewing are competing individually. Ewing is tied for 38th with a 155 (79-76) and Devine is tied for 55th with a 160 (84-76).
"It was great to see Leigha and Nicole bounce back with better play in the second round after the nerves settled," said Williams.
Rutgers, No. 76 in the Golfstat rankings, is six strokes behind second place and No. 54-ranked Seton Hall entering Sunday's final 18 holes. No. 78 Penn, with the top two individual scorecards, is atop the leaderboard with a 569 (289-280).
"We'll have to battle the weather tomorrow but look to close out the fall on a high note," added Williams.
Rutgers is paired with the Pirates and Quakers in the final round, which is slated to tee-off at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
