Seniors bring 45 combined meets of experience to the season
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Seniors Shannon Farrell and Kaitlyn Hall will serve as the Rutgers gymnastics captains for the 2019-20 campaign. The duo, both Academic All-Big Ten selections, bring a combined 45 meets of experience to the season for the Scarlet Knights.
"Shannon and Kait are fantastic role models," head coach Umme Salim-Beasley said. "They lead by example and use their experiences to help encourage and motivate their teammates inside and outside of the gym. They proved last season that they were able to overcome injuries and thrive. Both were major contributors to every competition last year. Their teammates admire their determination and look to them for support. They were fantastic choices to help guide this team."
Farrell joined the Scarlet Knights for the 2018 season and has seen action on uneven bars (9.925 career high), balance beam (9.800) and floor exercise (9.800) the last two years. A native of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, she led the team with a 9.835 NQS on uneven bars in 2019 with three first-place finishes, including a 9.925 on March 8 for the highest Rutgers score on the event since 2003. Her consistency saw at least a 9.700 or better in each of the last 11 meets, as Farrell was a recipient of the team's Pom Pom Award.
Hall is set for her fourth season in the program. She competed in a career-high 13 meets last year with action on vault (9.800 career high), uneven bars (9.825) and balance beam (9.825), posting 18 routines of 9.700 or better overall across the three events. The Raytown, Missouri, native earned two first places on vault and took home the team's Most Improved Gymnast Award, Coaches' Appreciation Award and Pom Pom Award at the banquet.
