PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football (1-4, 0-3) was topped by Maryland (3-2, 1-1), 48-7, on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium. The game was presented by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
Redshirt freshman
Johnny Langan, in his first career start, went 13-of-25 passing for 163 yards, adding 59 yards on the ground with a rushing touchdown. Junior wide receiver
Bo Melton led the Scarlet Knights with a 49-yard catch from Langan to set up the score. Sophomore running back
Isaih Pacheco paced the offense with 78 rushing yards.
On defense, junior linebacker
Tyreek Maddox-Williams recorded a team-high seven tackles. Sophomore linebacker
Drew Singleton posted his first career sack, with fifth-year senior
Willington Previlon also took down the quarterback. Junior defensive lineman
Julius Turner blocked a Maryland extra point attempt and sophomore defensive lineman
Mike Tverdov denied a field goal attempt.
Rutgers travels to Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 12 for a noon game on Big Ten Network.
