
Gotterup Named MGA Player of the Year

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Junior Christopher Gotterup added another accolade to his impressive resume, as he was named the 2019 Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) Jerry Courville Sr. Player of the Year, announced Friday by the organization. The award will be presented to Gotterup at the MGA's 122nd Annual Meeting and Dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York.
The Little Silver, New Jersey, native is currently the highest ranked Big Ten golfer in GolfStat's rankings (33rd overall in NCAA) and the 74th ranked American in the World Amateur Golf Association rankings (168th overall) with a 70.11 adjusted scoring average after his five fall outings.
Gotterup most recently earned the 2019 New Jersey State Golf Association (NJSGA) Amateur Player of the Year award at the organization's banquet on Oct. 24. Gotterup claimed the award after he secured individual titles at both the 99th NJSGA Open and 117th Met Amateur championships this past summer.
Gotterup, who closed out the 2019 fall season with three consecutive top-five finishes, was named Big Ten Golfer of the Week three weeks ago after he captured the 2019 Fighting Irish Classic with a 14-under-par 199 (68-63-68) on Oct. 8 in South Bend, Indiana. He followed that performance with a top-5 finish at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate with an 11-under-par 205 (65-71-69) on Oct. 21 in Vero Beach, Florida, and at the Grandover Collegiate on Oct. 28 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
A two-time PING All-Region selection and 2019 Second Team All-Big Ten performer, Gotterup has been one of the hottest golfers in the region since last spring. In addition to his triumphs over the summer, Gotterup finished fourth at the 2019 Big Ten Conference Championships in Philadelphia this past April to close out his sophomore campaign with three consecutive top-5 individual results.
