PISCATAWAY, N.J. – A season-high 13 former Rutgers football players competed during Week 11 of the 2019 NFL season. Gus Edwards rushed for 112 yards on eight carries, including a 63-yard touchdown to help Baltimore down Houston, while Sebastian Joseph-Day racked up five tackles for the Los Angeles Rams in their win over Chicago on Sunday.
Joseph-Day Plays in front of his Parents for First Time in NFL Career
For the first time since joining the Los Angeles Rams as a sixth-round selection in 2018, Sebastian Joseph-Day played in front of his parents on Sunday at LA Memorial Coliseum. It was a special moment for Joseph-Day, who produced five tackles, including three solo stops, as the Rams' starting nose tackle against Chicago.
In his second NFL season and first as an active contributor, Joseph-Day has started nine-of-10 games for the Rams and has produced 25 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, three QB hits and a sack.
Austin Shines Again for the New York Jets
In the second game of his rookie campaign, Austin once again stood out for the New York Jets in their 34-17 victory over Washington on Sunday. Austin logged his first start at cornerback, recorded three tackles and defended a pass to help the Jets to their second consecutive win.
Austin is the fifth Scarlet Knight to make his NFL debut this season, joining rookies Saquan Hampton (Saints) and Jonathan Hilliman (Giants), second-year player Sebastian Joseph-Day (Rams) and third-year player Andre Patton (Chargers).
Standout Season Continues for Ryan
Logan Ryan continues to put up impressive numbers for Tennessee in 2019. Through 11 games, Ryan is first on the team in interceptions (3), passes defended (15), and forced fumbles (3) and is second in tackles (74) and sacks (3.5). Ryan has logged eight or more tackles in seven games this season, including his season-high 13 stops this past weekend.
Former Rutgers defensive backs have had an impressive impact in NFL secondaries, with four Scarlet Knights accounting for 11 interceptions to begin the 2019 season. An RU player has recorded an interception in eight of the first 11 weeks of the season, as Devin McCourty co-leads the league with five picks. Logan Ryan (3), Duron Harmon (2) and Jason McCourty (1) have also contributed to the interception total.
