Guirantes Named to Big Ten Women’s Basketball Honor Roll

Redshirt junior has been honored by the conference in each week to start the season
ROSEMONT, Ill. (Nov. 19, 2019) – Redshirt junior guard Arella Guirantes of Rutgers women's basketball has been named to the Big Ten Honor Roll for her performance during the week ending Nov. 17. This marks Guirantes' second career Big Ten Honor Roll.
As the reigning Big Ten Women's Basketball Player of the Week from Opening Week and Rutgers' first such honoree since 2015, Guirtantes continued her assault on the stat sheet in Week 2. She averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 block during a 2-0 week that pushed the Scarlet Knights to 4-0 to start the 2019-20 campaign.
Guirantes scored 20 of her 24 points in the first half in a 50-point victory over Niagara on Thursday, adding a career-high five assists in the process. She added a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds in the 74-46 triumph over Harvard on Sunday.
The Bellport, New York native made six 3-pointers in 10 attempts (.600) on the week, including a career-high tying four in the Niagara win. It was her second game this season with four 3-point makes. A 25 percent career three-point shooter before this year, Guirantes is connecting at a .527 clip this season with 10 makes after making 23 in 32 games as a sophomore.
Guirantes is averaging 21.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game on the season. Following its three-game home stand, Rutgers heads back out on the road this week at LSU on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) from the Maravich Center.
