Nov 07 | Men's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas – Junior Christopher Gotterup is one of three finalist for the Ben Hogan Award October Golfer of the Month, announced today by the foundation. The monthly award is presented to the top amateur golfer in the country during that time span.
Eighteen total ballots are eligible to be cast, with 15 coming from members of the Hogan Trophy Foundation and Friends of Golf and three social media fan ballots. Those votes are issued to the top vote getter on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
The Ben Hogan Award is given each May to the top men's college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions over the past 12 months. The Ben Hogan Trophy was first issued by the Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles in 1990. In 2002, the Ben Hogan Award moved to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, and revised its criteria to its current standard of honoring the outstanding amateur and collegiate golfer.
Gotterup carried a 67.33 scoring average with two top-5 finishes in his two events last month. His play was highlighted by an eight-shot win at the Fighting Irish Classic when he fired a 14-under par score of 199. Gotterup also tied for fifth place at the Quail Valley Collegiate with a 54-hole score of 205 (-11).
The Little Silver, New Jersey, native was most recently named the 2019 Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) Jerry Courville Sr. Player of the Year and has also earned the 2019 New Jersey State Golf Association (NJSGA) Amateur Player of the Year award.
Gotterup is currently the highest ranked Big Ten golfer in GolfStat's rankings (33rd overall in NCAA) and the 74th ranked American in the World Amateur Golf Association rankings (168th overall) with a 70.11 adjusted scoring average after his five fall outings.
A two-time PING All-Region selection and 2019 Second Team All-Big Ten performer, Gotterup has been one of the hottest golfers in the region since last spring. In addition to his triumphs over the summer, Gotterup finished fourth at the 2019 Big Ten Conference Championships in Philadelphia this past April to close out his sophomore campaign with three consecutive top-5 individual results.
