PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's golf head coach Rob Shutte announced the signing of Rhett Sellers to a national letter of intent. Sellers will be eligible to compete for the Scarlet Knights beginning in the fall of 2020. A native of Longview, Texas, Sellers joins current sophomore Shayler Dance as RU players from the Lone Star State, as Dance hails from Dallas.
"We're just excited to have another great player from Texas join our family here at Rutgers," Shutte said. "Rhett is just a fantastic, smooth hitting left-handed kid who's putting on more weight right now. By the time he gets here in the fall, we expect him to fit right in and compete for a spot with the rest of the guys. He comes from a great family and fits into our culture really well."
Considered a top 300 signee in the class of 2020 by the American Junior Golf Association, Sellers earned a number of first place finishes in 2019, which included an individual TAPPS Class A individual state title as a junior. Sellers finished with a two-day total of 140 (69-71) at the tournament to help Trinity School of Texas to a team title on April 19 at the Squad Valley Golf Club.
Sellers also captured individual titles at the Pine Tree/Twisted 54 Invitational (211: 69-70-72) and the Spring Hill Invitational (69) to go along with a fifth place result at the AJGA Patrick Reed Insperity Junior Championship with a 218 (72-73-73) at the Woodlands Country Club.

Sellers joins Dance as recent signees from the state of Texas. Dance has appeared in 13 tournaments during his first two seasons at "On the Banks", including a top 10 finish at the 2019 Big Ten Championships in Philadelphia.
Currently the No. 1 ranked program in the Northeast according to GolfStat, Rutgers closed out the 2019 fall campaign with a second place result at the Grandover Collegiate in Greensboro, North Carolina. Junior Christopher Gotterup shined throughout the fall for the Scarlet Knights, as he claimed an individual title at the Fighting Irish Classic on Oct. 8 in South Bend, Indiana. The highest ranked Big Ten golfer and 33rd overall player in the country, Gotterup was named Co-Ben Hogan Golfer of the Month for his performance.
