Rutgers LDSP Hosts 2019 Knight of Networking
Dec 09
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers Athletics Office for Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships hosted the annual Knight of Networking event inside SHI Stadium at the Brown Recruiting Pavilion. The event featured the opportunity for over 100 student-athletes to meet with 75 unique employers representing 20 different professional fields.
Student-athletes got the opportunity to meet with potential employers for meaningful conversations, identify professional interests, explore internship opportunities, develop their professional network and practice informational interview skills. Rutgers student-athletes played an active role in putting on the event. The subcommittee for career and employer relations, headed by men's lacrosse student-athlete Ryan Gallagher, was instrumental in organizing the event.
"Knight of Networking is one of the signature events for the Office of Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships," said Dr. Kristina Navarro, Senior Associate AD for Leadership Development & Strategic Partnerships. "I am extremely grateful for the employers and alumni who take time to invest in the career and professional development of our student-athletes. I am proud of our student-athletes who invest in themselves to intentionally prepare for their future. We are thrilled to continue to build on these intentional mentor relationships with the launch of the R Scarlet Knight Network today at our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meeting."
Following the Knight of Networking, student-athletes will have the opportunity to follow up with mock interviews in the spring in addition to the launch of R Scarlet Knight Mentor Program. This program will provide an opportunity to engage with student-athletes via an intentional networking platform. Rutgers alumns that want to be considered as prospective mentors should reach out to Carissa Conroy via email (cconroy@scarletknights.com).
"On behalf of the Varsity R Letterwinners Association I would like to thank our alumni who consistently invest their time and energy to support our student-athletes during college and in life after sport," said Dr. Carissa Conroy, Executive Director for the Varsity R Letterwinners Association and Director of Student-Athlete Engagement.
