Men's T/F Gears Up for 2019 Big Ten Indoor Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's track and field gears up for the 2018-19 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23, hosted by the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The U-M Track Building houses a 200-meter hydraulic-banked track.
CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION
Friday's track events begin at 10 a.m. ET followed by the field events at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's action begins with track events at 10 a.m. followed shortly after by field events at 11 a.m.

SCARLET KNIGHTS TO WATCH
Rutgers enters the conference championships ranked fourth in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region rankings. Additionally, numerous Scarlet Knights rank in the Top 3 of the Big Ten event rankings. Below is a breakdown of Scarlet Knights to watch across track events and field events.
TRACK EVENTS
Most notable, senior Izaiah Brown sets his sights on defending his indoor 400m title for the fourth consecutive year. Brown claimed gold in the event in 2016, 2017, and 2018. His season-best time of 46.23 ranks 15th in the nation, as the Top 16 times are selected for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Sophomore Taj Burgess is also poised to return to the 400m finals, following a fifth-place finish in his 2018 debut. His season-best mark of 46.64 ranks fifth in the Big Ten standings and 22nd in the nation heading into the weekend.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of sophomore Edwyn Pierre, senior Alanzo Aris, Brown and Burgess owns a time of 3:08.94, marking the second-fastest time in program history. The mark ranks fourth in the Big Ten and 18th in the NCAA.
FIELD EVENTS
Sophomore Tobi Tella enters the championships as the new Rutgers record holder in the triple jump, posting a mark of 15.80m (51' 10"). The result ranks fourth in the conference and 21st in the nation this season.
Classmate Malachi Davis follows with a triple jump mark of 15.62m (51' 3"), ranking second in program history and fifth in the league. Davis also holds a season long jump mark of 7.52m (24' 8.25"), sitting third in the Big Ten season rankings and third all-time at RU.
Junior Perry Christie continues to reset his personal best in the high jump this season, entering the weekend with a mark of 2.16m (7' 1"). The mark sits at second in the Big Ten season results, as well as second all-time at Rutgers.
Also in the long jump, freshman A'Nan Bridgett brings a mark of 7.47m (24' 6.25"), which is the fourth-best mark in the Big Ten this season.
