ROSEMONT, Ill. – Rutgers women's lacrosse attacker
Marin Hartshorn continues to impress in her first collegiate season, as she was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive time, announced today by the league office. The honor comes after Hartshorn earned a combined six points on five goals and an assist against Marist (Feb. 16) and Temple (Feb. 13), to go along with six draw controls and four ground balls.
Hartshorn is the third freshman in program history to earn the weekly honor and second to garner multiple weekly rookie accolades.
Taralyn Naslonski was named the conference's rookie of the week twice last season, while
Abbey Brooks also earned the designation back in 2016.
Hartshorn recorded her second career hat trick in the Scarlet Knights' 13-9 win over Marist last Saturday, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist for four points. The Allentown, New Jersey, native also corralled two ground balls, earned a draw control and caused a turnover in the victory over the Red Foxes. Against Temple, the freshman scored twice, secured a team-high five draw controls and scooped up two ground balls to fill the stat sheet.
Through three games, Hartshorn co-leads the team in goals with nine and leads the squad with 15 draw controls. Within the Big Ten, Hartshorn is tied for third with 5.0 draw controls per game, tied for fifth with four points per game and tied for ninth with three goals per game.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, when it plays at Delaware for a 3 p.m. matchup in Newark.
