INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Rutgers standout guard Betnijah Laney has signed a free agent contract with the WNBA's Indiana Fever, it was announced today by general manager and head coach Pokey Chatman.
Laney averaged 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in her 29 appearances with the Connecticut Sun last summer. She previously played two seasons with the Chicago Sky where she added in 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in 40 career appearances.
The Clayton, Delaware native will join the Fever from Australia where she is currently averaging 14.2 points and 6.9 rebounds with the Dandenong Rangers. She will also be reunited with Rutgers teammate Erica Wheeler.

A 2015 Rutgers graduate, Laney was an Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press and a First Team All-Big Ten selection by both the media and coaches her senior season. During the 2014-15 campaign, she averaged 15.8 points and 10.7 rebounds for the Scarlet Knights, guiding Rutgers to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Laney holds the RAC rebounding record (men or women) having hauled in 24 rebounds against the No. 6 North Carolina Tar Heels in RU's first-ever ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Totaling 1,401 career points and 912 rebounds in her Rutgers career, Laney is only one of four Scarlet Knights to accumulate over 1,400 points and 900 rebounds in a career.
Laney was selected as the 17
th overall pick by the Chicago Sky in 2015 and was the 17
th Scarlet Knight drafted in the WNBA.
