Tennis Suffers First Loss of Season at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Rutgers tennis dropped a tight, 4-3 battle on the road at Army Friday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights secured three singles victories, but the Black Knights earned the doubles point for the edge.
RU suffered its first loss of the year, moving to a record of 2-1. Army improved to a mark of 5-3 on the season.
DOUBLES PLAY
Army secured the doubles points with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.
SINGLES PLAY
Sophomore Maya Jacobs highlighted the outing with her third consecutive singles win at the No. 1 position. Jacobs started off with a 6-1 win in the first set before Army's Ana Joyner took the second by a score of 6-3. Jacobs then sealed the win with a 6-1 victory in the third set, improving to 3-0 on the season.
At the No. 2 spot, freshman Tess Fisher earned her second straight win. Fisher rallied to hold off Army's Caroline Vincent by scores of 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), 6-2.
Junior Jaci Cochrane added a straight-set win for RU at the No. 5 spot, defeating Stephanie Dolehide by a result of 7-6 (4), 6-0.
In the No. 3 spot, freshman Sydney Kaplan claimed her first set over Kirby Einck, 6-2. Einck then evened the matchup with a 6-4 win in the second. In the deciding set, Kaplan was edged in a 7-6 (4) bout.
UP NEXT
Rutgers returns home to host Brown on Saturday, Feb. 16. Match time is set for 5 p.m. ET at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
