Rodkin Groundbreaking and Youth Combine highlight festivities on Spring Game weekend
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football will hold its annual Scarlet-White game, presented by PNC Bank, on Saturday, April 13 at HighPoint.com Stadium. The game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start and admission, and parking are free.
The intra-squad scrimmage caps a weekend of exciting activities, including the groundbreaking for the Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center and 2019 Middle School Combine & skills Showcase.
The Rodkin Academic Success Center ceremony begins at 12 p.m. and is open to the public. It will feature remarks from Athletic Director Pat Hobbs, University President Robert L Barchi, select student-athletes and namesakes Gary and Barbara.
Both graduates of The State University of New Jersey, Gary (RC '74) and Barbara (DC '76) have been major supporters of programs across the University, including Rutgers Future Scholars, Douglass Residential College, Rutgers Honors College, an endowed chair at the School of Engineering, the Center for Social Justice and LGBT Emergency Fund, and the Big Ten Build. The Gary and Barbara Rodkin Academic Success Center will serve all Rutgers student-athletes and provide a range of resources including academic advising, learning specialists, one-on-one and group tutoring, as well as housing the soccer, lacrosse, and administration departments.
The Birthplace of College Football will continue its year-long celebration of the game, hosting a pregame autograph session with Rutgers legends across several decades. Fans can meet these Scarlet Knight greats from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. under the south end zone scoreboard, where they will receive a special 150th anniversary-themed poster. The current squad and head coach Chris Ash will take part in an autograph session on the field following the game.
Rutgers University will host Open House Day with over 15,000 people converging on campus. Prospective students will have a chance to claim an exclusive, "The Birthplace of College Football" t-shirt. The t-shirt giveaway will also be available for current Rutgers students at the conclusion of the game on-field in the South end zone while supplies last.
