Scarlet Knight sophomore to compete at Georgia on April 5
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Belle Huang has earned a spot at NCAA Regionals for the second-straight season after being announced as an individual event qualifier on floor exercise Monday. She will represent Rutgers gymnastics in the Athens Regional at the University of Georgia on April 5 in the 2 p.m. session.
"Belle has been so consistent all year on floor," head coach Umme Salim-Beasley said. "She is so elegant with her presentation, the execution of her routine and really able to show off her personality. She earned the anchor spot in our floor lineup and never disappointed us with her effort. People will be delighted to see her performance at regionals."
A Second Team All-Big Ten selection, Huang is tied for 59th in the nation out of 505 qualifiers with a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.885 on floor exercise. She scored a 9.800 or better the last eight meets and had a career-high 9.925 in the home opener at the Livingston Gym on Jan. 19. The Maryland native recorded a 9.900 or better on the event three times overall this season.
Huang will compete in the second rotation of the meet during Kentucky's turn on floor exercise. The top event specialist in each event (not on an advancing team or an all-arounder) advances to the national championship (in that event only). Huang registered a 38.600 as an all-arounder at NCAA Regionals hosted by Penn State last year with a high of 9.825 on floor exercise.
This will be the ninth consecutive year the Scarlet Knights have representation at NCAA Regionals. Click here for the full NCAA release.
